Call for MTAC 2017 Convention Session Proposals

The 2017 MTAC convention theme is Breaking Barriers.  Some ideas behind this theme include: thinking in new and innovative ways about programming, teaching and performing; exploring new possibilities on one’s instrument; topics related to original composition, improvisation, transcriptions; reimagining sound; helping students break barriers in order to achieve their fullest potential; considering non-traditional ways of involving the audience; strengthening and expanding our community.

We are now actively soliciting proposals for Convention Session Presentations for the 2017 MTAC Convention to be held at the Santa Clara Hyatt Regency and Convention Center, from June 30 to July 4.  Send proposals by email to Janice Sheng at jsheng@mtac.org.  The deadline for the first phase of proposals, to be considered for the 2017 Convention, will be October 31, 2016.

  • Convention sessions may be of any length; however, the most common is 50-60 minutes.
  • Full convention registration will be given to each presenter whose proposal is accepted.
  • Presentations should not be commercial in nature. Books or products with which a presenter is involved may be referenced, but not sold at the presentation.

Information to be included in session proposal submission:

  • Title, 20-40 word description of the proposed session, and approximate timing
  • Biography of 40-70 words, and a list of references
  • Name, address, phone number and email
  • Videos and/or list of presentations given in the past (if applicable)

The Convention Program Committee will consider proposals in reference to the needs of the convention.  Response will be made by email.  Questions may be directed by email to Janice Sheng at jsheng@mtac.org.
