The California Music Teacher as the official journal of the Music Teachers' Association of California publishes a wide range of articles related to the education of musicians, activities of its sixty branches, reviews of new music, books and recordings; technology updates and programs of the yearly convention attended by over nine hundred members.

The journal welcomes articles on keyboard, vocal, and instrumental pedagogy; performance practice, music history, music theory, music in the community, and poetry. The editor reserves the right not to publish articles deemed inappropriate, and articles will be edited. Photographs in either black and white or color are usable.
