Community Outreach
The purpose of the Community Outreach Program is to give the individual MTAC branches an opportunity to "Reach Out" into their communities. Each branch has an opportunity to choose a project that will fit their branch and their communities unique needs
These projects embrace many things; for example: music in the schools, high school music scholarships, free music lessons, university and college music scholarships, music in retirement and nursing schools, concerts given by the branches to the community, and support given to community music organizations, i.e. community orchestras, choral groups, concert series, and youth orchestras
The Music Students' Service League (MSSL) is a state sponsored program under the umbrella of Community Outreach. This program offers music students, whose teachers are MTAC members, the opportunity to serve their community through music as well as to complete service hours required by either their school or service organization. This type of community service, known as service learning, allows students to simultaneously continue their study of music, while sharing their gifts and talents in the form of community service. Students can give recitals in senior citizen's homes, assist beginning students in their home practicing, and help other MTAC teachers at their music functions. Branches can design their MSSL program to fit their own unique branch needs.
Through these outreach projects, the name MTAC is brought before our communities as an organization that is interested in sharing its talents and expertise not only within its own boundaries but also with our communities throughout California
