Musical Bridges Around the World—An Invitation to Experience, Explore, and Celebrate!

We have an inspiring selection of sessions and artists for this exciting convention theme this year. Not only is it important to recognize and celebrate the musics of the world but the different realms of music—from the classical, to folk, and popular. Christopher O’Riley, pianist and host of the popular radio show, From the Top, will present a unique piano recital of classical and popular arrangements on Monday evening. You won’t want to miss it. He will hold the Advanced Piano Master Class on Tuesday morning.

Are you ready to tango? Pablo Ziegler, the pianist and arranger for Astor Piazzolla, will be our featured Argentine tango artist. He is joined by bandoneon artist, Hector Del Curto in recital on Monday afternoon. Ziegler will also give a special tango master class for student tango ensembles on Monday morning.

We are pleased to have the Alexander Quartet as our resident chamber and string artists this year. On Saturday, the quartet will present a chamber recital and master class. Individual members of the quartet will be featured in recital and master class as well.

Our commissioned composer this year is Katrina Wreede who has created a work for piano and string quartet. The piece will have its world premier on Monday afternoon. An educator as well, Ms. Wreede is eager to work with our composition students who are the composers of our future music.

Where else can you experience a musical journey that will explore music past, present, and future, and celebrate the music of diversity and originality?  At Convention 2013, of course.
