Membership Categories and Requirements
- Active: Teachers who hold a bachelor’s degree in music (or its equivalent) and have at least two years teaching experience
- Provisional: Teachers who seek to qualify for membership within 3 years. Meanwhile, they may participate in MTAC programs. Apply for Provisional Membership.
- Student: College students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music. Apply for Student Membership.
- Business Affiliate: Non-teaching persons and organizations who support the purposes of the Association. Apply for Business Affiliate Membership
Membership within a Branch of MTAC
- Being part of a local group of like-minded professionals in your region.
- Being able to participate in Branch Activities and Programs.
- Being able to participate in State Programs that require Branch Membership (Certificate of Merit and VOCE).
When joining MTAC, you have the option to have a Branch Membership. The primary advantages of Branch Membership are as follows:

MTAC is composed of 63 Branches throughout California. The membership process begins with filling out the appropriate form either online or downloading and sending it to the Membership Coordinator at the state office.
If you have a choice of several branches in your area, you may want to compare size of membership, general location and time/day of meetings, and specific programs offered in each Branch.
