Outstanding Service Award

Sue Scofield received her Bachelor and Master degrees in music from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She came to California in 1972 for her husband James Scofield’s Medical Residency at the Glendale Adventist Hospital. In 1978, Sue joined the Glendale Branch of MTAC and was soon elected to the Glendale Board of Directors, where she served 3 terms as President among other positions.

In 1985, Sue was elected to the Executive Board of the Southern California Junior Bach Festival (SCJBF), where she served twelve years as General Chair and twelve years as Vice Chair. She is presently an Advisor on the Executive Board. That same year, Sue was also elected to the Southwestern Youth Music Festival (SYMF) Board of Directors, where she has served as President for over 10 years and continues to serve as President.

In 1991, MTAC State President Peter Yazbeck invited Sue to join the Certificate of Merit® Council. Sue has served on the CM Council as Evaluator Chair, Panel Chair, YAG Chair, Information Chair, Festival Recital Chair, Theme Recital Chair, and String Panel Chair. She is still on the CM Council today.

Sue was elected to the State Board in 1993 (Barbara Torney was President), where she served as State Treasurer.

Sue has taught piano in her private studio in Glendale since 1978. Her students have performed on Certificate of Merit® Panel Honors Recitals and Master Classes, as well as winning many trophies at SYMF and Medals at SCJBF Complete Works Auditions.
